The US Food & Drug Administration (FDA) announced last week (July 2021) that pet food company Sunshine Mills, Inc., “is issuing a voluntary recall of certain products due to potentially elevated levels of Aflatoxin above the acceptable limit.”
According to the press release, “Aflatoxin is a naturally occurring by-product from the growth of Aspergillus flavus and can be harmful to pets if consumed in significant quantities.”
This makes the second time in two months that Sunshine Mills Inc. has issued a voluntary recall of their products. On June 2, 2021, the pet food distributor labeled four of their brands as linked to possible salmonella contamination.
Which Foods Are Recalled?
While there have been no reports of illness, Sunshine Mills, Inc., has issued a voluntary recall on the following brands:

Sunshine Mills, Inc. has asked retailers to pull these products from their shelves. The FDA recommends that any pets who experience “sluggishness or lethargy combined with a reluctance to eat, vomiting, yellowish tint to the eyes or gums, or diarrhea” should see a veterinarian immediately.
Products affected by this recall have a best-if-used-by date of February 11th, 2022.
What Should You Do If You Bought This Food?
The FDA encourages customers who have purchased the recalled products to “discontinue use of the product,” and that they also “may return the unused portion to the place of purchase for a full refund.”
If you’ve purchased the affected food, you should also contact the Sunshine Mills customer service at 800-705-2111 or by email at [email protected].
