Volunteer Firefighters Rescue Missing Dog From A 30-Foot Sinkhole

The Fallowfield Township Volunteer Fire Company went above and beyond to save a dog who fell into a 30-foot sinkhole, believed to be an old mine shaft, in Charleroi, Pennsylvania. They responded to the call and arrived on the scene to form a rescue plan. Initially, they wanted to lower a firefighter down into the pit, but command said that the risk of collapse was too great.

So they made a new plan. They widened the hole at the top to lower some equipment, and luckily the dog cooperated. The firefighters managed to use some rope to pull the dog to safety. His nose was a little scuffed up, but he didn’t seem to have any major injuries.

The dog, named Blaze, had been missing for eleven days, though it’s not clear how long he was in the sinkhole. Blaze’s owner is happy to have him back home and plans to take him to the vet to get checked out. Hopefully he’ll be spending the rest of his days above ground from now on.
