The age of Oprah’s dog Sadie is 16. The pet turned “sweet 16” on December 22, 2024. The host adopted Sadie from PAWS Chicago in 2009 when she was “just 12 weeks old.”
When Oprah went to the city’s largest no-kill humane shelter, PAWS, for a photoshoot she felt a connection with Sadie and before she knew it, the host welcomed the pup into her home.
Talking about Sadie in the June 2009 issue of O, the Oprah Magazine, she said, “Right before we shot the photo…she had licked my ear and whispered, ‘Please take me with you.’ Out of all the pups in that picture, Sadie was the one I felt an instant connection with. My heart spoke to Miss Sadie, the runt of the litter. I love making the underdog a winner.”
However, shortly after, Sadie was diagnosed with the dreaded parvovirus. She underwent a course of “Plasma transfusions. Antibiotics. Probiotics. And daily visits.” Despite all the measures, Sadie’s health was deteriorating for the first four days. Even Oprah was “prepared to let her go” as she believed the fragile pup “shouldn’t have to fight this hard.” But miraculously, she fought back and recovered completely, bringing cheer to everyone. Sadly, Ivan, whom she adopted with Sadie, died due to the same virus.

The breed of Oprah’s dog Sadie is Cocker Spaniel. These are one of the world’s best-loved breeds and are perfect companion for kids due to their playful and gentle nature. The dogs of this breed generally weigh around 20-30 pounds and have a life expectancy of 10-14 years.
Other than being adorably cute, Sadie is a perfect travel companion and loves to snuggle and sleep with Oprah who also has Sunny, Lauren, and Layla as her pet dogs.
