Oprah is an avid dog lover. The talk show host is also a dog mom to many fur babies, two of which are sisters: Lauren and Sunny. Sadly, Sunny died few days back. Fans are eager to know about Sunny. Here is everything we know about Oprah’s pet dog’s age and breed.
How old was Oprah’s dog Sunny?
The age of Oprah’s dog Sunny was 15. She was born on October 23, 2009.
Oprah adopted springer spaniels Sunny and Lauren from PAWS Chicago in 2010 when they were just 14 weeks old. The talk show host adopted the fur canines on a very special day. Oprah adopted the rescue pets as a 56th birthday present to herself.
Taking about her adorable pups, the host told her Oprah Winfrey show audience, “They could have been euthanized if they weren’t adopted. Can you believe that?””
But training Sunny and her sister was a bit more difficult than Oprah thought. However, years later speaking about her pups nature on the talk show, Oprah said, “Sunny and Lauren—my little hellions, as I call them—aren’t so hellish anymore.”
But sadly, Oprah had to recently “put down Sunny,” her nineteenth dog due to renal failure for which she was undergoing treatment “but finally, it was not enough.” The host posted the sad news on her site on March 9, 2025.
What breed was Oprah’s dog Sunny?
