Suffocated Dog Found With Dead Mother and Teenage Daughter in New York Apartment

Police discovered a suffocated dog along with a dead mother and her teenage daughter in a Brooklyn, New York, apartment on Monday afternoon. They likely died on Friday, shortly after a neighbor called 911.

Police find suffocated dog and dead family in apartment

According to the New York Post, the horrific discovery happened around 4:30 p.m. on Monday in a second-floor apartment in the East Flatbush neighborhood.

A friend went to check on the 37-year-old woman, her 14-year-old daughter, and their dog. The friend hadn’t heard from them since Friday.

Police forced open the door of the apartment at 1296 New York Avenue. In the living room, they found the mother’s body, face up. She had stab wounds. The teenager was face down and had head trauma. The dead dog was next to them with a bag over their head. It appears the dog died of suffocation.

The scene was “particularly gruesome and bloody,” according to a police source cited by the New York Post.

Neighbor called 911 two days prior after hearing dog whimpering

Unfortunately, this wasn’t the first time the police visited the home. On Friday morning, a downstairs neighbor named Steve Schor called 911. He reported hearing a commotion around 7:20 a.m.

“We heard screaming. We heard the dog whimpering,” the 38-year-old neighbor told CBS News.

Police came to the home and knocked on the door. But no one answered. So, the police left.

The suspicious deaths are under investigation. According to the New York Post, sources suspect this may have been a murder-suicide situation. CBS News reports that police have not made any arrests and no suspects are in custody. Authorities have not released the names of the victims or provided any further information about the suffocated dog. The family had only been living in the apartment for a few months at the time of the deaths.
