Pet Sitter Abandons Senior Dog With Dementia in Washington

A senior dog with dementia was abandoned after his owner left him in the care of a pet sitter. Daniel Cardenas was distraught when the pet sitter looking after his dog stopped responding to him after their initial contact. It eventually led to Cardenas cutting his vacation short to rush back to Seattle to check on his beloved pup.

Seattle dog owner speaks up about pet sitter abandoning senior dog

A 15-year-old Shiba Inu named Loki was abandoned by his dog sitter while his owner was on vacation. What’s worse, the senior dog was diagnosed with dementia a few years back.

Daniel Cardenas was flying out of the country and had to leave his furry friend behind. This was due to uncertainty regarding international flight policies. The doting pet parent exclaimed to Fox 13, “Anyone who knows me knows I’m the guy that goes everywhere with my dog. I’m the guy who books the extra seat and has his dog with him…”

Daniel Cardenas further explained that he wanted to give his Shiba Inu the best care while he was away. Due to Loki’s dementia, it was important for Cardenas that the routines and surroundings stayed the same to ensure the pup’s optimum comfort.

After returning from his vacation, a quick check showed that the poor Shiba Inu was alone in their apartment. Cardenas’ house had urine and feces everywhere. Moreover, the Seattle resident noted that some alcohol was also missing from his apartment. Also, he wasn’t sure if the designated pet sitter had shown up to check in on Loki during the few days he was away from home.

Daniel Cardenas stated he got his refund. However, all the past conversations and booking confirmations were deleted from Wag!, the pet-sitting service he had used. Fox 13 confirmed that the platform is looking into the case. The dog owner only hopes that necessary steps are taken to hold the pet sitter and the platform accountable for the incident.
