Owner tells dog she can’t join them on vacation in viral video
A touching video posted on the Instagram account @touristtolocal shows a dog owner having a heartfelt “talk” with his Golden Retriever, Napa, letting her know she won’t be coming on the family trip. The clip began with a text overlay: “POV: you catch your husband having the talk with your golden retriever that she isn’t coming on vacation.”
In the video, the dog owner gently told Napa that while she was staying home, they would all have a great time together again when they returned. He reassured her, saying he loved her and that she had to be good while they were away. As she sat quietly, Napa seemed to sense what was going on. Her facial expressions were soft and slightly sad. The dog dad stroked her face and gave her a kiss, clearly finding the goodbye just as hard as she did.
In the caption, the man’s wife shared more context: “We think it’s hard leaving Napa… but we’re pretty sure she forgets about us the second she gets to grandma and grandpa’s.” She added that while it might seem like a tough goodbye for Napa, it’s just as emotional, if not more so, for them. “Not sure if the goodbye is harder for her or him,” she wrote.
