Video: Owners Adopting ‘Oldest’ Golden Retriever From Shelter Win the Internet

Adopting a pet is a life-changing decision, and one that brings companionship, joy, and sometimes even a bit of chaos. However, the adoption story of one Golden Retriever and his new family is all the more special, as shown in a recent Instagram video that went viral.

While many prefer puppies, there’s something powerful about choosing to give a senior animal a second chance. They may have a few more years behind them than ahead, but what they offer in loyalty and gratitude is unmatched.

Owners adopt senior Golden Retriever from shelter in viral video

A 10-year-old Golden Retriever named Mulligan is warming hearts all over Instagram, thanks to a viral adoption video. It captures the moment his new owners brought him home from the Edmonton Humane Society.

Mulligan was the oldest dog at the shelter at the time, described by his new family as “very overweight,” but full of personality. Despite his age and health concerns, it was love at first sight for the pet parents as well as the canine.

The video begins with the couple walking into the shelter, unsure of what to expect. In the next clip, Mulligan was bonding immediately with his new dad, leaning into him with a calm trust that usually takes months to build. Viewers were quick to point out how relaxed and at ease he seemed, as if he already knew he was finally home.

Just two weeks after the adoption, the couple posted an update on social media, saying, “In just two weeks, all three of our lives have changed.” They shared that Mulligan has brought unexpected joy into their home. “Never could we have dreamt that rescuing a 10-year-old, overweight Golden Retriever would bring us so much comfort and happiness,” they wrote.

They admitted facing a few challenges, like adjusting to a new routine and learning each other’s quirks. However, they said those minor hurdles are nothing compared to the joy Mulligan has brought into their lives. “He is truly a dream to us, and we hope we are to him too,” they added.
