Humans often talk about slowing down to savor the little things. Turns out, dogs might be better at it than we are. Rather than rushing through his treat, one Golden Retriever has shown that even a biscuit deserves a slow, thoughtful approach. His antics, caught on video by his owner, reveal that sometimes the anticipation is just as entertaining as the snack itself.
Instagram video shows Golden Retriever eating biscuits, but there’s a catch
Trooper, a 6-year-old Golden Retriever, is no stranger to being the center of attention. A new clip posted to the Instagram account @trooperandtaco shows just how much of a character he is. In the video, Trooper’s owner holds out a biscuit for him to eat. Most dogs would snatch it without a second thought, but Trooper has a flair for the dramatic.
Instead of chomping down right away, he leans in, gives the biscuit a gentle lick, then pulls back as if he’s not quite ready. He repeats this several times, keeping both his owner and viewers waiting. Just when it looks like he might finally take a bite, he pulls back again, stretching out the suspense. At one point, the biscuit slips from his owner’s hand, but when she picks it up and offers it again, Trooper finally decides the performance is over and eats it.
Fans of the video joked that Trooper’s performance deserved an award. The dramatic pauses, the careful licks, and the way he built suspense had viewers comparing him to an actor stretching out a scene. One amused viewer said, “Goldens are so gentle that they won’t take off the food from your hand unless you release it.”
Another viewer added with a laughing emoji, “Testing under process,” as if Trooper was carefully inspecting each crumb before approval. And then there were those who found something meaningful in the moment. One user wrote, “They teach us everything about how to enjoy the little things in life.”
While Trooper’s video is all in good fun, it’s important to be cautious about sharing human snacks with your dog. Many biscuits contain sugar, butter, and additives that can upset their stomachs, while ingredients like chocolate, raisins, and xylitol are outright toxic. Even plain biscuits should only be offered sparingly. The safest option is to stick with dog-specific treats, which are made to be both enjoyable and healthy for pets.
