Brew, like most Golden Retrievers, lives for attention. If a hand is moving anywhere near his fur, he expects contact — real scratches, real pats, the whole deal. So, when his human’s fiancé decided to try a little trick one evening, Brew was caught completely off guard.
The video opens in the living room, where the fiancé pretends to pet him without actually touching. At first, Brew wags his tail and leans in, convinced the attention is genuine. Then it clicks, and his face says it all — confused, a little insulted, and ready to demand proper pets.

The post’s caption even warned, “it takes him a while to realize,” and it really does. In the beginning, Brew goes along with it, happily wagging each time a hand hovers near his coat.
Once he figures it out, Brew nudges the hand, throws a side-eye at the camera, then nudges again, like he’s trying to place the hand on his back himself. A second hand joins in on the prank, this time on the other side, and Brew’s patience starts wearing thin. He looks at his mom like, “can you believe this guy?” then scoots closer, clearly trying to push his way into real pets. Alas! Did he finally get the pets he so desperately wanted? We’re sure of it, but it doesn’t show in the video.
Viewers were quick to side with Brew. Comments ranged from “Your fiancé is rage baiting all of us” to “cancel the wedding this minute! lol.” Others imagined Brew’s inner monologue: “I didn’t ask for diet pets,” and “Mom, I think this one is broken.” One summed it up best: “GIVE HIM REAL PETS RIGHT NOW.”
