Queen Camilla’s Dog Moley: Age, Breed & More

Many want to know more about Queen Camilla’s dog Moley, the new puppy joining the British royal family. The queen revealed that she has adopted a rescue dog while speaking with the owner of Battersea Dogs and Cats Home, an organization Her Majesty is a patron of, in a video posted on X in late February 2025 by Rebecca English of The Daily Mail. Moley’s adoption comes after the heartbreaking news that her Jack Russell Terrier named Beth passed in November 2024. Here’s what we know about Moley, Queen Camilla’s new dog, including its age and breed.

How old is Queen Camilla’s dog Moley?

Queen Camilla’s dog Moley is approximately nine weeks old, as of March 5, 2025.

The queen shared that the new puppy was only “eight weeks old,” which is accepted as the most optimal time to adopt a pup. At around eight weeks, the dog has received enough socialization with its mother and siblings to safely play and meet other canines.

Moley is a female dog who was born on Boxing Day, which is on December 26, the day after Christmas. The owner of the organization said that Moley was named after Sarah Ferguson, Duchess of York, who had several moles removed while having reconstructive surgery. The queen kept the name, though it was mainly because the dog “looks just like a mole.”

What is the breed of Queen Camilla’s dog Moley?

The breed of Moley, Queen Camilla’s new puppy, is a Jack Russell Terrier cross, though the queen described it more as a mutt, saying that she was “a bit of everything.”

It’s difficult to determine what the exact breed of the dog is, as her mother is “half Jack Russell, half unknown” and the father’s breed is also unknown. That said, it looks to have enough Jack Russell Terrier in its genetic history to be called a cross for that breed in the first place. We’ll learn more once there are images and footage of the pup.

Queen Camilla has historically favored the Jack Russell Terrier breed, as she owns another one named Bluebell and had two others named Tosca and Rosia who have since passed.

Fortunately, Moley will have playmate as King Charles has also adopted a new puppy named Snuff.
